Ron was down most of last season with a couple of back surgeries. It was a rough go but he's on the mend and we have started playing together again. On Oct. 24 we played for the Shell Point Retirement Community open house. It was a marathon 5 hours of music with a couple of short breaks, but we soldiered on. It was fun to be playing together again and most of the folks seemed to really enjoy it.
Well, the season has finally wound down out at Sanibel. They actually kept us going at Sharky's for several months longer than we thought they would, but the doldrums finally arrived. Not sure we'll playing there again when the season starts back up for them. We shall see! Whether there or someplace else, I'll keep you updated right here!
They have moved our time up at Sharky's at the Sundial resort. We now start at 7:30 PM and go to 10:30. Might make it easier on you to come out since it's not so late. I know it's a whole lot easier on us!
We're still playing Friday nights on Sanibel! Last week I was solo while Ron was recovering from back surgery. The next two Friday's will be Ron going solo as I will be taking some time off for my daughter's wedding. As far as we know, we'll still be playing after that, so come on out!
Last weekend was supposed to be the end of our run at Sharky's for the season, but for the time being, they have asked us to keep going. Not sure how much longer it will last, but we're willing to keep on pretty much as long as they would like us to. The time has bumped up even earlier - now we're on 8:00 - 11:00 pm. And it's just Fridays now. We've had good groups there the last couple of weeks even though it's late in the season. Come out and catch us while you can!
Well, the season is winding down and they have asked us to pull back to Friday nights only at Sundial. They are keeping an eye on their occupancy as to determining how long we'll keep going this season. So if you want to see us, come out soon!
Last week we met a local, Sanibel couple who were at Sharky's for dinner. They really liked our sound and hung around for quite a while to listen. It seems they have some connections around the island and are interested in helping us connect with some more gigging opportunities. We shall see where that leads, but hopefully we'll have some more gigs to announce soon. Our start/end times at Sharky's have changed to 8:30 - 11:30 pm (It was 9:00 - midnight). Now were catching some folks finishing up dinner before they leave and so they are tending to hang around for some music. Getting home a half hour earlier is also a nice plus.
People are starting to show up to our gigs at Sharky's in greater numbers. The Sanibel season is finally kicking into gear. We're hoping the press release we put out finds it's way into print this week. There were actually some locals there last weekend but it turns out the were taking a "staycation" at the resort for their anniversary.
We envisioned ourselves as kind of an anti-Jimmy Buffet act for the Fort Myers area - a counterpoint to what you usually get when you see a guy with a guitar at the tiki bar. But everyone seems to clamour for the National Anthem of Florida so we reluctantly added "Margaritaville" to our set list. Though it's one of those songs that is in grave danger of being completely worn out, it actually is kinda fun to play. So Saturday night, some lady requests it, which isn't really surprising. (She was an out of town tourist, of course. No local would request it since they know it will be played sooner or later by everyone) So we rendered our version for her and then her hubby jumped up and put our first $20 tip in the tip jar. I have to admit, that song is kinda growing on me.
We'll be playing out by the pool behind the Player's Club at the Lely country club in south Naples on Sunday, Mar. 18 starting at 1:00 'til probably 4:00 or so. I think it's a private event for members, but if you tell them you're with the band, who knows?, maybe they'll let you in. We played for an open house sales event there a few weeks ago and we heard that the members demanded they get us to come back. So that's a good sign.
